Dos Pueblos boys wrestling turned in an impressive performance at the Newport Harbor Classic Tournament on Saturday.

The Chargers got a pair of podium finishers, with both Brandon Velasquez and Sylis Penniman going 3-1 and finishing in third place in their weight class. Velasquez wrestled at 157 pounds while Penniman was at 175 pounds.

Francisco Espinosa also went 3-1 but ended the day in seventh place at 113 pounds. Shaun Vague, a 132-pounder, went 2-1 in his matchups.

At 144 pounds, Seamus Fergus slotted into eighth place with a record of 3-2 while Ryan Risdall went 2-2 in the 138-pound division. Chase Plowman rounded out the Chargers wrestlers at 150 pounds.

“They demonstrated significant improvement from the previous year,” Dos Pueblos coach Jesse Plowman said. “Head coach Bernard’s summer efforts with the team were evident in their hard-fought matches.”
