Dos Pueblos boys wrestling handled Santa Barbara High by a score of 62-15 on Wednesday inside JR Richards Gym.

The Chargers won 11 of the 14 bouts en route to the team victory.

“Santa Barbara graciously hosted us,” Dos Pueblos coach Matt Bernard said. “Working through the lineup details together we were able to maximize the number of wrestlers to get a match this evening, which is what it’s all about.”

Seven of those wins came via a forfeit, as Andrew Gilligan (120), Patrick Sullivan (126), Shaun Vague (132), Andrew Cook (150), Tyler Bryce (157), Alex Ramon (106) and Francisco Espinosa (113) did not need to compete to earn points for their squad.

The next three victories came by way of a fall. Seamus Fergus (138) secured a technical fall win while Ryan Risdall (144) and Ethan Ono (215) tallied normal falls.

Brandon Velasquez, a 165-pounder, won his bout by decision to round out the points scored by the Chargers.

“The team intensely prepared, put maximum effort into every match, and fought through every position,” Bernard said. “It’s great to see the tenacity and grit put forth by each wrestler into every match.

“I couldn’t be more proud of where they are at as we head into the winter break.”
