Dos Pueblos cross country turned in an impressive performance at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday.
The Chargers finished first in the sophomore boys Division 2 team race, ended in second place in the girls varsity race and logged a fifth-place finish in the boys varsity race.
Cullen Gulley led the pack in the Div. 2 sophomore boys Division race, finishing with a time of 16:33. Gulley was followed up by teammate Linus Martin’s second-place time of 16:54.
Closing out the race for Dos Pueblos were Owen Abbott (8th, 17:40), Oliver Saleh (9th, 17:40) and Tristian Marston (56th, 19:47).
In the girls varsity race, Vienza Machuca and Sophia Saleh finished second and third overall after crossing the finish line in 19:50 and 20:27, respectively. Both times were course personal records.
“I didn’t know I was in second,” Machuca said. “I thought I was back further because the leader had gotten out of sight. Next time, I’ll be more aggressive and not let go.”

Behind Machuca and Saleh were Cate Bishop (17th, 21:43), Maddy Myers (34th, 22:44), Ila Walman-Randall (48th, 23:44) and Selah Blackwell (54th, 24:13).
Will Matthews paced the Chargers in the varsity boys race, finishing with a time of 16:48 for 12th place. After Matthews were Andy Brennan (20th, 17:06), Finn Wright (35th, 17:37) and Dominic Corral (17:46, 43rd).
“This is a recurring trend for Will, who has made a senior year surge to the Varsity level, and doesn’t appear to be letting up any time soon,” Dos Pueblos coach David Jackson said.

The Chargers will compete in the County Championships on Wednesday in Lompoc.
