Dos Pueblos football had its Friday night matchup against Buena at Scott O’Leary Stadium end abruptly after a light pole shut off, leaving a portion of the field in the dark.
The Chargers held a 21-14 lead over the Bulldogs with 6:08 remaining in the second quarter when the game was called for the night.
The two sides are working to resume the contest on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium at San Marcos High School. The game will likely be resumed then, but official confirmation will come Saturday, according to Dos Pueblos head coach AJ Pateras.
Before the game came to a stop, the Chargers got on the board first at the 5:28 mark in the opening quarter when Grady Felix called his own number and rushed in a touchdown from 5 yards out for a 7-0 lead.
After the two sides exchanged punts, Dos Pueblos’ Seth Orozco hauled in an interception and returned it back to the goal line.
The offense then took the field, and Chase Johnson bulldozed his way into the end zone for a 1-yard score and a 14-0 lead.
Just before the first quarter ended, the Charger defense came up with another turnover by forcing a fumble and recovering deep into Buena territory.
The Dos Pueblos offense took advantage of the field position as Joan Esparza scored on a short rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0 to begin the second.
Buena responded in a major way, putting together a drive that ended in a rushing touchdown before coming up with an interception to steal the game’s momentum.
The interception led to another Bulldog rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-14 just 30 seconds before the stadium light pole went out and forced the game to be suspended.
