A late four-goal run by Oak Park finished Dos Pueblos’ girls lacrosse season Wednesday in a 12-11 loss in the opening round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
Avery Ball led the Chargers with six goals, and also had six draw controls. As a team they had 15 ground balls. Dos Pueblos led 6-4 at the half.
The Chargers finish the season at 10-7, after finishing second in the Channel League at 8-2. First place Cate also lost Wednesday, in the opening round of the Division 3 tournament, 19-11 to Northwood.
“It was an amazing hard fought game from both teams,” Dos Pueblos coach Anais Jimenez said. “I am very proud of how well the team played and how motivated the team was tonight.
“I am extremely proud of our defense for being able to adapt to how Oak Park runs their offense. They went on a four-goal run at the end which gave them the win.”
Jimenez noted that his team “came a long way” since losing to Oak Park 16-6 in the season opener.
“For the amount of injuries and minor setbacks we had as a team, we really gave it our all in tonight’s game and fought hard until the last second,” Jimenez said. “The team had an amazing improvement this season and tonight’s game was a prime example of that.”
