Dos Pueblos pulled out a tight 10-8 victory over Santa Barbara High in a crosstown girls tennis showdown on Wednesday in Santa Barbara
“Going into this match as the underdogs, SB played their best yet this season,” Dons head coach Shane Carmody said. “It was an impressive fight that leaves much to be revealed for the future contests between all three SB high schools during the second half of the Channel League season.”
Santa Barbara’s Nicole Buist turned in a big day in singles action, pulling out a tightly contested tiebreaker against Dos Pueblos’ Mel Mayo before earning two more wins to finish the day at 3-0.
Dos Pueblos dominated the rest of singles play, as Mayo, Zella Cassidy and Isla Herrera all went 2-1 on the day, with the lone losses coming to Buist.
In doubles action, Santa Barbara High was led by Lucy Kronberg and Iris Heckes, who went 3-0 in their matchups. Meanwhile, Violet Marr/Stella Malina and Kate Hashbarger/Kana Wolf tallied one win apiece.
The Dos Pueblos duo of Sonia Flathman and Ari Fisher finished off the victory with a doubles win to clinch the team’s 10th point.
The Chargers and Dons will head into the second half of Channel League play next week.
San Marcos 17, Pacifica 1
The Royals picked up a comfortable league win over the Tritons on Wednesday.
The San Marcos doubles attack dominated, sweeping all nine points without losing a game.
“Doubles has been working on ending points quicker and were able to practice that,” San Marcos head coach Emily Carver said.
Meanwhile, Stella Mast and Leah Shenoda each went 3-0 in their singles matchups.
The Royals will host Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
