Dos Pueblos girls water polo earned a 13-5 victory over El Segundo High to open up the CIF-SS Div. 1 playoffs on Wednesday in El Segundo.

Despite the final score, El Segundo dominated the early parts of the game, leading 2-0 after the first quarter and scoring the first three goals of the day.

However, the Chargers flipped a switch in the second quarter and outscored El Segundo 13-2 in the final two-and-a-half quarters of the game to pull out the win.

HanaLora Abel, Franki Court and Alina King sparked the Dos Pueblos offense with three goals apiece. Meanwhile, the freshman trio of Kyra Jones, Keira McAvoy and Devereaux Wigo all scored as well.

Addy Hamers rounded out the scoring for the Chargers in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

Defensively, Megan Garner and Addison Parrish were the anchors with Garner collecting 12 saves and Parrish snagging six steals while guarding El Segundo’s top scoring option.

Dos Pueblos (18-9) will now host Schurr High for a second-round matchup on Saturday at Elings Aquatic Center. The time is still to be determined.

In other action in Div. 1 on Wednesday, Santa Barbara High lost at Harvard Westlake, 18-5.
