Ewan Richards and Matthew Wilcox turned in strong performances for the Dos Pueblos boys volleyball team in a season-opening sweep at Oak Park on Tuesday night. The scores were 25-19, 25-23, 26-24.

Richards, who attended Oak Park as a freshman, played a solid match in his return. He had six kills, three blocks, three digs and three service aces.

“Ewan played a complete game tonight, passing with efficiency, bombing it from the service line, and starting the season right with the biggest stuff block of his career,” said DP coach Ehren Hug.

Wilcox was a wall at the middle blocker position as he put down 10 blocks to go with six kills.

“He was relentless tonight and it showed as the Eagles began to roll and tip over him. He really worked hard tonight,” said Hug.

Micah Goss led a balanced hitting attack with eight kills, Jan Schmidtchen and Grant Hughes each had seven. Hughes, the team’s setter, handed out 29 assists.

The Chargers play their home opener Thursday against Valencia.
