Sophomores Gus Miller and Roman Christou each scored two goals in the fourth quarter to lift the Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse team to a 12-10 win over Thacher in a Channel League game on Thursday in Ojai.
The Chargers improved to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in league.
Miller scored twice to rally DP from a 10-8 deficit. Christou completed the comeback with two goals in the last four minutes. Both players finished with four goals and an assist.
Parker Bentley had five assists on the day.
DP’s Cal Denier was terrific at the face-off X, winning 15 of 21 face-offs.
Thacher jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before DP could respond. The Chargers clawed back and tied the score at 5-5 before halftime.
Cate 13, San Marcos 1
Kristian Scurtis ran coast-to-coast to score a “pole goal” for the lead, and Cate rolled to the Channel League win over San Marcos.
The Rams improved to 6-1 in league and 8-1 overall.
After Scurtis’ goal with a long-pole stick, Wade Nieman finished a pass from Johnny Foster to make it 3-1.
Nieman scored 3 minutes into the second quarter and Ethan Rehnborg buried a crankshot off a Harry McAdam assist. McAdam then added another goal for a 6-1 advantage.
The Cate defensive trio of Scurtis, Jack Whelan and Sasha Gonharenko shut down San Marcos in the transition game.
“All day long the stellar-ride package forced turnover after turnover from the Royals,” said Cate coach Wade Ransom.
Cody Mast buried a brilliant pass from Johnny Foster for a 7-1 halftime lead.
McAdam scored two more goals in the fourth period to finish with four and three assists. Nieman also scored four goals.
The Rams travel to Ojai on Wednesday for the regular-season finale. A win would secure a second straight Channel League championship and a home game for the first round of the CIF playoffs.
