Dos Pueblos softball dropped its CIF-SS Div. 3 Wild Card matchup with Martin Luther King High by a score of 10-0 on Tuesday in Riverside.
After a scoreless first inning, the Martin Luther King offense woke up and scored seven runs across the second, third and fourth innings to pull away from the Chargers.
Martin Luther King put the finishing touches on the mercy-rule win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.
“That MLK team is tough, we had to battle every at-bat,” Dos Pueblos coach Mike Gerken said. “We had some uncharacteristic defensive breakdowns that got us in trouble in the third, but I thought we would bounce back.
“In the end, though, it was their aggressiveness and execution that got us.”
For Dos Pueblos, Kaitlyn Ashby went 2-for-3 on the day while Katelyn Lisi narrowly missed a homer in her final at bat as a Charger.
“I’m sad to say goodbye to our wonderful seniors, Georgia Wilson, Katelyn Lisi, Eleanor Lemon and Rylee Cathcart, who’ve meant so much to our program over the last four years,” Gerken said.
Dos Pueblos wraps up the season with an overall record of 13-11 and a third-place finish in the Channel League.
