Dos Pueblos softball struggled to keep up with Newbury Park in an 8-0 road loss on Thursday.

“It was a tough day at the plate for us today,” Chargers head coach Mike Gerken said. “Their pitcher induced a lot of fly balls and we never really put any pressure on their defense.

“They are pretty solid offensively, especially in the middle and made us pay for the errors we made. We just have to do a better job of responding.”

Newbury Park took advantage of a pair of Dos Pueblos errors in the first inning, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Panthers continued to roll with three more runs in the second to double the lead to 6-0.

Meanwhile, Newbury Park Krista Danklets dominated in the circle and held the Chargers to just one hit on the game.

The lone Dos Pueblos hit came off the bat of Anastasia Brunner, who singled to center in the top of the sixth.

The Chargers (1-1) will host Simi Valley for a non-league game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
