Dos Pueblos softball fell to Oaks Christian by a score of 4-3 on Friday at the Righetti Tournament in Santa Maria.
The Chargers came out of the gates on fire, scoring all three of their runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a three-run homer off the bat of Kaitlyn Ashby.
While Dos Pueblos went silent, Oaks Christian knocked a solo home run in the fourth and a three-run long ball in the fifth to pull out the 4-3 win.
“We couldn’t build on the momentum from the first inning,” Chargers head coach Mike Gerken said. “It looked like we might run away with it early. Kaitlyn missed her second three-run homer of the day by a foot or two, but the entire game was full of ‘could haves.’ We need to be better at making things happen.”
Dos Pueblos is now 10-13 overall and remains 8-4 in Channel League play.
Santa Barbara 14, Hueneme 6
The Dons pulled away late for a non-league win over Hueneme on Friday.
Santa Barbara High scored three runs in both the second and fifth innings before exploding for eight runs in the seventh to earn the victory.
Alina Magdaleno and Victoria Arellano led the way offensively, as Magdaleno went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Arellano went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Meanwhile, Ava Karman, Aleeya Zaragoza, Alanah Salas and Bea Southern tallied two hits apiece.
Vienna Mochi went the distance in the circle, striking out five along the way.
“This is what a team win looks like,” Santa Barbara High head coach Julie Kittle said. “We had a small roster of 11 and all 11 players made an impact in the game.”
