Dos Pueblos softball picked up a 6-1 Channel League victory over Pacifica on Monday in Oxnard.
Kaitlyn Ashby twirled a complete game while striking out eight and both Anastasia Brunner and Kacey Hurley tallied three hits. Brooklyn Hedricks provided the biggest swing with a solo homer.
The Chargers jumped on the Tritons with three runs in the first inning courtesy of a two-run single off the bat of Juliana Brunner and an RBI single by Vereniki Maniadis.
“Juliana Brunner’s clutch two-out hit is something we could use a little more of as we left a few too many runners on today,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “I’m happy with the 15 hits, but we need to put up a few more runs when we’re hitting it that well.”
The Tritons got a run back in the first on an error, but Ashby settled in and cruised from there on her way to the complete-game win.
“Kaitlyn located the ball very well today, especially with two strikes,” Gerken said. “She was able to move the ball all over the zone better than I have ever seen her do it.”
Hedricks extended the Chargers’ lead back to three with a leadoff solo shot in the top of the third to make it 4-1.
Dos Pueblos rounded out the scoring in the top of the fourth when Kacey Hurley came all the way around with a two-run, inside-the-park homer.
The Chargers (5-7, 4-1 Channel League) will head across town to take on Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
