Dos Pueblos battled CIF-SS Division 4 top-ranked Burbank-Burroughs to the last inning in the opener of a softball doubleheader before falling, 5-3, on Saturday at Dale Okinaka Field.
Burroughs won the nightcap, 7-1, to complete a sweep.
The Chargers got out to an early 2-0 lead in the opener on a single and two errors and a perfectly executed squeeze play by Georgia Wilson to score Mia Reveles.
Burroughs answered with two run in the top of the second to tie it.
DP regained the lead in the third, putting together three straight singles for a run. Lysandra Pimental drove in the go-ahead run.
But Burroughs responded with three runs on four hits in the fourth.
DP threatened in the seventh, putting runners at second and third. But Burroughs stymied the Chargers’ comeback.
Burroughs opened up a 6-0 lead after three innings.
Bella Nuño homered for DP’s run in the seventh inning.
“Game one was a great battle against a very good team,” said DP coach Mike Gerken. “They had an answer every time we scored. We had a chance in the seventh but just couldn’t get the hit we needed.
“In the second game, a couple of errors in the first sort of took the wind out of our sails. We battled but just couldn’t get the momentum we needed.
“Proud of our efforts today. This was a great test for us.”
Dos Pueblos (12-5) plays a first-place Channel League showdown Monday at Rio Mesa.
