The Dos Pueblos softball seniors celebrated their special day with some fireworks in a 14-3 Channel League win over Ventura on Wednesday at Okinaka Field.
Bella Nuño and Mia Reveles hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first inning, and Riley Monroe went 4-for-4 with RBIs. Georgia Wilson, Summer McCeney, Georgia Miller, Trisha Lo and Pau Avina also contributed to the onslaught.
Wilson scattered seven hits in the five-inning, mercy-rule shortened game.
“Our seniors really rose to the occasion today,” said coach Mike Gerken. “They were able to set aside the emotions that always exist pre-game and focus on playing good softball
“RIley Monroe has been hitting the ball really hard lately. When she, Bella and Mia are all in sync, we score a lot of runs. The three combined for 7 RBIs today and 18 total bases.
“All the seniors contributed today. I am excited to head into the playoffs with this group.”
Nuño hit her second lead-off home run in as many games bringing her season total to 16. Reveles followed with a her homer to deep left. McCeney and Georgia Miller also contributed RBI singles in the inning to make it 4-0.
After a lead-off single by Trisha Lo in the second, DP got doubles from Nuño, Monroe, Wilson and McCeney for an 8-0 lead.
Ventura scored three runs in the third, but the Chargers responded with two in the bottom of the inning and four more in the fourth.
Dos Pueblos will enter next week’s CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs with records of 19-9 overall and 11-3 in league.
