A quartet of Dos Pueblos track & field standouts shined on the brightest of stages last weekend.

Owen Abbott, Ian McMurtry, Cullen Gully and Ashton Smedley put together a strong showing at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

The tandem competed in the 4×1,600-meter race, finishing in eighth place with a time of 17:37.98 against the toughest competition in the nation.

With that performance, the team earned All-American status and proved that the Chargers can compete with the best of the best.

Abbott, McMurtry, Gully and Smedley were all critical to Dos Pueblos’ success throughout the spring, helping lead the team to a Santa Barbara County championship and a share of the Channel League title.
