Dos Pueblos wrestling placed 35th out of 91 teams with 55 total points at the California Invitational Tournament in Morro Bay over the weekend.
Sam Ramos (165) and Brandon Velasquez (157) led the way for the Chargers, each placing seventh in their respective weight classes.
Both Ramos and Velasquez ended the weekend with records of 5-2. All five of Velasquez’s wins came by way of a pin while Ramos registered three pins and two decision wins.
Shaun Vague (132) was the next-highest finisher for Dos Pueblos, falling one win short of placing and earning 11 team points after picking up four total wins.
Rounding out the point-earners for the Chargers were Tyler Bryce (150), Hector Medina-Lule (190) and Ethan Ono (215). All three of these wrestlers went 1-2 on the weekend.
“It’s a great opportunity for the first and second years in the lineup to see high-level wrestling and for the 3+ year wrestlers to test their mettle,” Dos Pueblos coach Matthew Bernard said.
“The veterans bettered their performance over past years. Every wrestler learned and made improvements this past weekend, which is what it is all about.”
