Dos Pueblos alum and three-time CIF State Champion Stamatia Scarvelis qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in two events this past weekend at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds at North Florida University in Jacksonville.
Scarvelis, a senior at the University of Tennessee, will be going to the championships in Austin, Texas on June 8 to compete in the hammer throw and the discus.
She threw a season-best of 224-2 in the hammer to win the event on Friday and qualify for the NCAA championships for the third straight year. She is Tennessee’s record holder in the event at 226-7.
On Saturday, she punched her ticket to Austin in the discus with a throw of 174-3 on her first attempt.
At Dos Pueblos, Scarvelis was CIF State Champion in the shot put in 2014 and 2013 and captured the discus title in 2014.
She started her collegiate career at UCLA and transferred to Tennessee after her freshman year.
Last summer, she won the Greece national title in the hammer throw.
