Dos Pueblos sophomore Eamon Gordon posted the fastest overall time and led the Chargers to the boys sweepstakes title at the Dos Pueblos Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Gordon led the sophomore class to first place in the grade-level races with a time of 16:00.74 on DP’s 3-mile on-campus course.

The Chargers also took first place in the boys’ freshman class race and second in the junior and senior races.

Ashton Smedley of DP won the freshman race in 17:44.2 and Oliver Sales took second in 17:47.53. Tyler Jamieson was third (16:16.76) in the senior race and Dominic Corral (17:18.49) claimed third in the junior race.

DP coach Mick’s Purnell said the boys sweepstakes title is a great accomplishment considering the field included Division 1 program Long Beach Poly, which has won the trophy many times.

The DP girls finished second in the sweepstakes standings behind Long Beach Poly. The Chargers took first place in the freshman and sophomore races.

DP senior Phoebe Wolfe Lyons was the individual winner in the senior race in a time of 19:17.30 and Ellie Gleason came in second in 19:33.95. The Chargers’ other top finishers on the day were junior Sophie Saleh, second in the junior race at 20:30, and Cate Bishop (21:08.32) and Ashley Hansen (21:28.32), second and third, respectively, in the freshman race.

Purnell was happy to be able to continue staging the DPI, which in past years has been held at Leadbetter Beach.

“We had an open week on our schedule, so we were able to put on the Dos Pueblos Invitational once again,” he said. “Everyone participated, but it was really good to give our runners whom we haven’t been able to take to Clovis, Woodbridge and Mt SAC invitationals an opportunity to race.

“A big thanks to our parents who came out strong and acted as course monitors, and in other roles. We couldn’t have put this meet on without them.”

The DPI also included local team Bishop Diego, Cate, and Santa Ynez.

Cate’s Genevieve Won took third in the girls freshman race (21:22.51) and Brooke Phelan of Santa Ynez was fifth (21:41.28).

Cate’s Everest Schipper and Sebastian Sutch placed 1-2 in the junior boys races in 17:10.76 and 17:14.75, respectively. Bishop Diego’s Lara Heinichen was fifth for the junior girls (23.43.95).

Next for Dos Pueblos is the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday, Oct. 21. The following week is the Santa Barbara County Championships at Lompoc’s River Park on Oct. 26.
