After dealing with a wave of illness, the Dos Pueblos boys cross country team gutted it out at the CIF State Championships and finished in 14th place out of 25 schools in the Division 3 race.

Senior Luciani Koroshec was DP’s top finisher, coming in 25th place in 16:08.4 on the 5,000-meter course at Fresno’s Woodward Park. It was a lifetime best for Koroshec, who moved up from 41st place after the first mile.

Sophomore Eamon Gordon finished 67th in 16:08.4 and was followed by senior Tyler Jamieson (102, 17:04.5), senior Orlando Ye (133, 17:25.5) and sophomore Eli Richardson (17:40) in the scoring positions. Also running for the Chargers were freshman Ashton Smedley (185, 18:19) and sophomore Andy Brennan (195, 18:39.4).

“There were team-wide health complications beyond our control, so we refocused on things we could control,” said coach David Jackson. ” This setback puts in perspective the high value of good rest and recovery. Most importantly, they all came out of season uninjured and our staff unwavered in our mission of empowering athletes and fostering community. We’ll recover and celebrate our whole team’s accomplishments at our end of season banquet next Sunday night.”

Oakdale of the Sac-Joaquin Section won the Division 3 team title.
