San Marcos’ Leo Metzger took medalist honors with a three-under 69, but Dos Pueblos won the match 396-418 in a Channel League round Wednesday at Sandpiper Golf Course.
Charger freshman Laith Reynolds provided a keeper highlight with his first-ever hole-in-one on the par 3 sixth.
“Hole six plays along the coast and had a distance of 160 yards,” Dos Pueblos coach Kevin Ahlers said. “He hit a 4-iron just short of the green and it rolled in for an ace!
“It was an exciting moment for Laith and both teams were excited for him. This will be a shot he will remember for the rest of his life.”
Reynolds finished his round with an 81.
San Marcos’ Shams Jagangir-Arshad had the second-best round of the day, a two-over 74. Jagangir-Arshad birdied the 16th and 18th holes to finish strong.
Dos Pueblos was led by a Teddy Vigna with a 77, while Ruben Mendoza shot a 78 and Scott Nightingale a 79.
“Sandpiper is a difficult course, and I stressed to the players to focus and keep their ball in play,” Ahlers said. “There was mild wind at the start of the match but it picked up later on.”
“I was very happy to see all the boys stay focused and play a consistent round.”
Dos Pueblos is now 2-0 in league play and 6-1 overall.
