Dos Pueblos broke a scoreless tie with a four-run third inning and went on to defeat San Marcos 10-3 to open Channel League action Friday.
Mackenzie Ensign went 3-for-3 with a double and Riley Monroe and Jessica Reveles each had three RBIs for the Chargers. Georgia Wilson went the distance in the circle, giving up three runs and striking out nine.
The Royals scored their three runs in the fifth inning, on singles by Bella Cruz and Gigi Gritt and walks given up to Kate Guerra, Caitlyn Early and Tiana Monaghan.
Dos Pueblos is now 3-0 overall, while defending Channel League champs San Marcos falls to 0-2.
“Mackenzie really came to play today,” Dos Pueblos coach Mike Gerken said. “The girls were really nervous opening league against the defending Channel League champions, and sometimes it takes a senior to step up. She did exactly that. A great day for her.”
“Georgia was consistent in the circle,” he added. “She’s not usually a strike out pitcher but when she hits her spots like she did today she’s tough to deal with. Credit to both Georgia and Riley Monroe who worked so well today carrying out the game plan.”
San Marcos right fielder Emma Foster had two assists throwing runners out at first, to go along with two put outs.
The Royals play Rio Mesa Saturday in the Simi Valley Manlet Tournament.
