Dos Pueblos’ Georgia Wilson and Lompoc’s Briana Reitmeier found themselves in a classic pitchers’ duel Tuesday, with the Chargers prevailing 1-0 in the Channel League matchup.
The game’s lone run came in the bottom of the first when the Chargers’ Bella Nuno drove in Jessica Reveles.
But both teams threatened along the way. Dos Pueblos had a runner on third with no outs. Wilson was able to pitch her way out of a bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning.
Dos Pueblos’ Nuno and Lompoc’s Natalie Aguilar each had two hits.
“That was a great game,” Chargers coach Mike Gerkin said. “Similar to last year, our games with Lompoc always seem to come down to one run.
“Credit to both pitchers today. There were plenty of opportunities for both teams to break the game open, but Georgia and Reitmeier kept making big pitch after big pitch to retire the sides.”
Dos Pueblos rises to 2-0 in league play.
