The Dos Pueblos girls pulled away from a tie at halftime to take a 50-34 Channel League at Lompoc Tuesday.

“This was a team effort on the defensive side for us,” Chargers coach Phil Sherman said. “Lompoc is very physical on the offensive boards.”

Dos Pueblos senior Lily Mires led with 19 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks.

Mires and Ari Tapia combined for all 15 of the Chargers’ fourth-quarter points, and senior Leila Chisholm broke the game open in the third quarter with three straight steals that led to seven points in a row for the Chargers.

Chisholm and Tapia scored eight points apiece for the Chargers.

“Layla and Ari really know how to play off each other,” Sherman said. “They apply a great deal of defensive pressure on the perimeter.

“The bench also contributed with Gianna Nichols, and Sierra Jewell, a pair of sophomores, made defensive contributions.”

Dos Pueblos improves to 6-1 in league play, and 16-3 overall.
