Freshman Scott Nightingale shot an even-par 71 to earn medalist honors and lead the Dos Pueblos boys golf team to a 371-429 win over Santa Ynez in the final Channel League dual match at Glen Annie Golf Course.

The win secured at least a league co-championship at 9-1. San Marcos is 8-1 with one more match to play.

“This was one of our beginning-of-the-season team goals,” said coach Kevin Ahlers of the championship. “The boys have finished the season very strong. It will be exciting to see what they can do in the post season.”

Nightingale made three straight birdies on Nos. 12, 13 and 14 and hit 14 greens in regulation.

In their final home match, seniors Ruben Mendoza made three birdies and finished with a 72, while  Michael Gentry shot 74, which included two eagles on Nos. 5 and 14. He nearly aced the fifth hole, putting his second shot within six inches of the pin.

“These two guys have been the instrumental players for the DP team for the last three years and will be missed in many ways next year,” said Ahlers.

Freshman Teddy Vigna shot a 75 with four birdies (3,7 12, 13) and 13 greens in regulation. Freshman Laith Reynolds was able to break 80 with a score of 79.

The golfers will compete in the Channel League individuals Monday and Tuesday at te Alisal Ranch Course.
