A score at the second-quarter buzzer capped a three-goal run that sparked the Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse team to an 11-5 win at Chaparral in Temecula in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
The three unanswered goals gave the Chargers a 5-2 lead at halftime.
“The girls really worked hard to adjust their game after a rockier start than we hoped,” said co-coach Jess Delgadillo. “I am so proud of the way the girls pulled it together to pull out a win that would advance us to the semifinals.”
Avery Ball scored five goals and Brooke Essig had two to lead the Chargers (14-1).
Dos Pueblos won nine faceoffs, with Essig earning five. Sydney Steele led the team with three assists.
Liv Naaman, Chloe Watson and Kenzie Hemman led the defense. All three dominated on ground balls and caused turnovers, said Delgadillo.
The DP coach said 15 senior players will walk across the stage at Scott O’Leary Stadium and receive their high school diplomas during the school’s graduation ceremony on Wednesday.
“We are so proud of our girls and the hard work they are putting in during such a big and busy week,” she said. “High school may be over, but their high school lacrosse journey is not yet over.”
