Down 6-5 at the half, the Dos Pueblos girls pulled away in the second half to beat Cate 15-7 in a Channel League match Tuesday.
The win keeps the Chargers undefeated in league play at 5-0, setting up a showdown Thursday with undefeated San Marcos. The game is at Dos Pueblos and starts at 6 p.m. The Chargers are 13-1 overall.
Seven players scored for Dos Pueblos, led by Avery Ball and Lauren Elliott with three goals apiece. Ball added two assists.
Autumn Litten, Makayla Severson, Mia Termond and Caitlin Duncan scored two goals each, and Alice Sperling added one.
“It was so fun to watch my attackers work the ball around and spread out our shooters,” Charger coach Samantha Limkeman said. “It was a close match until we pulled ahead.”
Goalie Maddie Nees had seven saves for Dos Pueblos. On defense, Limkeman credited Yesenia Valdez with using her speed to intercept and get the ball back to the attacking side, and midfielder Autumn Litten working hard to re-defend.
“It’s always fun playing the Cate team because they really bring a lot of skill and a challenge for us to adjust our game to,” Limkeman said. “It took a whole half for us to figure it out, but we did. I’m looking forward to our rematch next week!”
