Bishop Diego lost a Tri-Valley League match to Foothill Tech, 13-5, on Tuesday.
Bishop Diego’s No. 1 doubles team, Sebastian DeJohn and Sean Kelly, won two of their three sets, 6-3, 6-4.
“Sebastian and Sean are really playing well together,” Cardinals coach Natlee Hapeman said. “They are covering the court and working off each other’s strategy. Sean has a consistent serve and Sebastian likes to place the ball where the opponent’s are not. They have closed the middle well and have been able to place key shots.”
The Cardinals drop to 0-2 in league play and 1-6 overall. They play at Cate on Thursday.
“I have seen much success in the few months of play,” Hapeman said. “The team as a whole has been working on their serve and their offense game. The experience at matches is our biggest success. The score does not show how many individual successes this team has had.”
Cate 16, St. Bonavanture 2
The Cate boys opened their Tri-Valley League season with a 16-2 win over St. Bonaventure Tuesday.
Freshman Harry Su swept his three sets for the Rams. In doubles, the teams of Alex Tang/Balazs Kondor, Felipe Blanco/Owen Conde Raggett, and Elias Lieser/Nathan Keshen dropped just five games on the way to winning all nine doubles sets.
The St. Bonaventure sets both came from Gordon Huckestein, who edged Cate senior co-captain Jinming Wang in a tight tie-breaker capping an exciting back-and-forth set.
The Rams host Bishop Diego at 4 p.m. Thursday.
