Avery Ball scored three goals to lead Dos Pueblos to a thrilling 7-6 win over Cate to end the regular season as undefeated Channel League champions.
The Chargers scored two unanswered goals in the last 11 minutes of the back-and-forth game for the win.
Cate took a 3-0 lead in the first half, and led 5-4 at halftime.
Autumn Litten added two goals for Dos Pueblos, which finishes the season 7-0 in league play and 12-1 overall. Second-place Cate is 6-2 in league and 7-2 overall.
Cate was led by Lilly Zanze with three goals and an assist, and Josie Erikson and Phebe Hancock scored two goals each. Liz Sutter had nine saves.
Dos Pueblos goalie Maddie Nees had one save in the first half, and senior goalie Annette Bennett had four saves in the second half.
“We are so proud of the players tonight,” Dos Pueblos coach Jess Delgadillo said. “They had fun, and that’s what it’s all about. We say goodbye to 15 varsity seniors, and 19 seniors in the whole program. They will be sorely missed, but this is the kind of game we love to end our regular season with. Playoffs here we come!”
Cate coach Renee Mack said, “The hardest part of today was actually not the loss but the end of a special season. It was our seniors last game and they will be greatly missed next year. They have led by example daily. They have formed a real team. They were selfless. They were full of heart and soul.”
