The Carpinteria boys tennis team evened its record to 1-1 with a 13-5 non-league win over St. Bonaventure on Thursday.

The doubles play of Troy Zimmerman and Matthew Endow led the way for the Warriors as they held their serve throughout, finishing 3-0 on the day.

Doubles teams of Ian Thomas/Zaiden Juarez and Connor Gralewski/Gavin Pendergrast each went 2-1.

“We had some very tight sets in doubles that we ended up pulling out.” coach Charles Bryant said.  “I give our boys some credit as they had to dig deep and stay mentally focused to earn those wins.”

In singles, Austin and Max Stone dominated, with each player picking up a win, and Ryan Souza went 1-1.

First-time singles players Steven Bengry and Asher Pampel came out strong in their debuts. Bengry won his first attempt at singles and Pampel came up just short in a tie break.

“It’s nice to have some crossover players who can seamlessly switch from singles to doubles and vice versa,” Bryant said.   “It definitely gives us more flexibility.”
