A downed power line sparked a vegetation fire just west of Goleta Wednesday afternoon, but firefighters were able to quickly contain the flames.

Multiple engine crews responded shortly before 3 p.m. to the blaze along Farren Road, just up from Vereda Del Padre, according to Mike Eliason, a spokesman for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Amid breezy conditions, a utility pole broke and brought down at least one high-voltage line crossing Farren Road.

“Firefighters were able to quickly halt the forward progress of the flames, and contain it to approximately 1 acre,” Eliason said, adding that no injuries were reported.

Gusty winds pushed smoke from the blaze into the nearby Rancho Embarcadero neighborhood in Tecolote Canyon.

Southern California Edison Co. crews were on scene to repair the damaged power lines.
