The Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association (DSBIA) invites the community to a ribbon-cutting and launch event as part of its annual meeting, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at DSBIA’s new office, 415 State St.

“DSBIA, which replaces and expands on the services of the previous Downtown Organization, is committed to creating a welcoming downtown environment where residents, workers, and visitors feel proud and secure and local businesses thrive,” DSBIA said.

Attendees can meet the inaugural Board of Directors of DSBIA and staff, and learn about new services and plans to revitalize downtown. Small bites and beverages will be provided.

The event will include a tour of the new office space, offering a closer look at the central hub for downtown’s future, DSBIA said.

The annual meeting and presentation will be at 3:30 p.m., the ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m., followed by an office tour and networking.

DSBIA will share updates and planning for the rest of 2025, and beyond. Highlights include:

Cleanliness – Plans include daily janitorial services and routine power washing with the goal of maintaining sparkling public spaces. DSBIA will be elevating downtown Santa Barbara’s identity with landscaping to enhance aesthetic appeal, support sustainability, and reinforce the welcoming character of downtown.

Safety – Creating a safe, welcoming space for all. Safety is a top concern of DSBIA. Small grants will be provided for free cameras to private business and property owners to assist in deterring crime and in prosecuting those who commit crimes.

In collaboration with the Police Department, DSBIA will prioritize areas to adding lighting and other action steps to mitigate crime.

Communication & Responsiveness — DSBIA will set up structures and protocols for coordination with police, social service providers, and outreach teams to address complex needs expeditiously. They will also produce a public communications plan to update the community regularly on DSBIA activities, progress and other news.
