Dr. Bill Moore

Dr. Bill Moore was born Feb. 23, 1943 in Butte, Montana, to Bill and Esther Moore. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Santa Barbara on March 6, 2025. He lived a remarkable life, dedicated to his family, various passions and career.

Bill was raised in Butte in a tight-knit community. He graduated from Boy’s Central High School, and went on to study pre-medicine at Carroll College in Helena, Montana.

He then went to Medical School at the University of Oregon, and it was there that he met his future bride Marion Roberts. Bill completed his studies at Stanford University, where he specialized in anesthesiology.

During the Vietnam war, Bill was stationed at Fort Shafter Army Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he worked at Tripler Army Hospital. After three years in Hawaii the family moved to Santa Barbara.

Bill joined the Anesthesia Medical Group of Santa Barbara, and worked at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for over 35 years.

His commitment was evident in the care he provided his patients, and he is remembered fondly by his partners and co-workers. His passion for helping people was his calling and his life’s work.

Bill enjoyed spending time on the golf course with friends, and loved spending time outdoors. He also loved traveling, skiing, and the many adventures he shared with his family.

Bill remained deeply connected to his hometown, always carrying his Butte pride with him wherever he went.

Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marion Moore, as well as his children Christine and her husband Derek, and Kevin and his wife Emma. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Olivia, Liam and Chloe; and his (favorite) sister Connie.

He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and brother. The family is deeply grateful for all of those who helped care for him these last few years.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. March 19 at the Old Mission Santa Barbara. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to help fund Alzheimer’s research.
