One person was killed early Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 246 in the Santa Ynez Valley, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. to the 900 block of Highway 246, in the flats between Buellton and Solvang, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

They found a pickup truck that had slammed into a tree off the side of the road.

The sole occupant was declared dead at the scene, Safechuck said.

The driver’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Traffic on the highway was reduced to a single lane for a time after the crash, Safechuck said.

Additional details were not available.
