A motorist escaped injury Friday afternoon when a large tree fell on his vehicle in Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 12:30 p.m. to the incident on Calle Real at Encina Lane, said fire Engineer Mike Gray.

The eucalyptus tree landed on the roof of the vehicle, trapping the male driver, who was the sole occupant, Gray said.

Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free the man, whose name was released, from the wreckage.
