A 21-year-old Solvang man was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 north of Los Alamos, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 8:30 p.m. to northbound Highway 101 north of Palmer Road, said Mike Eliason, a Fire Department spokesman.
The 2009 Mercedes Benz reportedly was traveling at a high speed — up to 120 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It veered off the highway, up an embankment and overturned, Eliason said, adding that the man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died at the scene.
“Due to the speed of the car, there was a large debris field, and the CHP anticipates traffic restrictions,” Eliason said.
The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
The crash was under investigation by the CHP.
