Motorists in Santa Maria are advised to expect traffic control and detours along a stretch of McCoy Lane near Professional Parkway and along Betteravia Road, as the city and its contractor continue road repairs this week and next.
McCoy Lane is being repaved from the railroad tracks to Broadway (Highway 135). Betteravia Road is being repaved from A Street to Blosser Road. This phase of the project began in December.
West McCoy Lane was already scheduled for improvements by the Santa Maria Department of Public Works, prior to a sinkhole that developed in early December leading to temporary road repairs.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, crews will plan to be on Betteravia Road to lower manholes in preparation for digging out old asphalt pavement. Drivers should expect lane shift traffic control.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, paving will take place eastbound on West McCoy, including permanent repair to the water main break/sinkhole area near The Natural Café restaurant.
Expect eastbound closure from Professional Parkway to Broadway. Eastbound on West McCoy detour will be available taking traffic North on Depot Street.
On Friday, crews will be raising manholes near the traffic circle at the intersection of East McCoy/South College Drive roundabout and on West McCoy eastbound. There will be no more full closure at East McCoy/South College roundabout, but expect lane shift traffic control in these areas, the city said.
Next week, there will be paving on Betteravia Road from Blosser to A Street, along with a small portion of Blosser northbound from Betteravia.
The work is being done by V. Lopez Jr. & Sons of Santa Maria, contracted by the city of Santa Maria. Construction schedules are subject to change due to factors like weather or site conditions.
