Fifteen more colorful murals on utility boxes along Broadway have been completed, the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department has announced.
The boxes were painted by local artists, each with a unique theme and interpretation of what Santa Maria means to them.
Last month, mini-murals with scenes inspired by the community were hand-painted by artists including Karina Trazos, Katherine Taylor, and Catalina Bertola.
The creators were chosen by a panel of judges to paint on traffic signal utility boxes along Broadway from Carmen Lane to Preisker Lane.
The first phase of the Utility Box Art Project was completed in April 2017, when four local artists beautified utility boxes along Main Street.
To date, 28 utility boxes have been painted by local artists.
Aspiring artists can watch the Recreation and Parks Department’s social media pages and department website for the next call to artists.
The newly painted boxes will be added to the city’s Public Art Map which can be viewed at www.cityofsantamaria.org/art.
