Emily Carr’s walk-off three-run home run on Sunday afternoon highlighted the UC Santa Barbara softball team to a sweep of UC San Diego. The Gauchos secured a 5-2 victory over UC San Diego in front of a sellout crowd at Campus Diamond on Wednesday.
The Tritons took an early lead in the first inning when Wasserman hit a two-run home run to center field, scoring Cherry and giving UC San Diego two unearned runs. The score was 2-0 in favor of the Tritons after the first inning.
After several scoreless innings, UC Santa Barbara tied the game in the fifth. Dani Rauscher scored on a hit by pitch by Jazzy Santos, followed by Tehya Banks scoring on another hit by pitch to Emily Carr. The score was tied 2-2 at the end of the fifth inning.
In the seventh inning, UC Santa Barbara gained momentum after Giselle Mejia walked, and pinch runner Katie Terrazas advanced on a fielder’s choice and a single by Santos.
Carr then hit a three-run homer to left field, scoring Santos and Terrazas and walking the Tritons off, 5-2, for the three-game sweep on the weekend.
UC Santa Barbara will now prepare to host Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 11. The first pitch between the Gauchos and Fighting Irish will be at noon. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available.
