Approximately a dozen employees were evacuated from a downtown commercial building Monday afternoon due to a structure fire.
Santa Barbara City Fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 827 State St., which houses several businesses, at 2:42 p.m.
When crews arrived at the scene, they did not see any signs of a fire from outside the building on the State Street side, according to Battalion Chief Jon Turner of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
Fire crews met with maintenance personnel from the building who said there was a fire inside an electrical room.
The maintenance employees were able to put out the fire themselves. City crews confirmed that the fire had not spread and that everyone had been evacuated from the building, Turner said.
The extent of damage and cause of the fire are under investigation.
Electrical Fire At Bacara Hotel in Goleta Valley
In an unrelated incident Monday, an electrical fire was reported in the hotel ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Bacara at 8301 Hollister Ave.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews responded to the western Goleta Valley at 10:55 a.m., Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
Hotel staff noticed sparking on the ballroom’s high ceiling and called 9-1-1, he said. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly after arriving, and used a scissor-lift to access the area.
The ballroom was not occupied by an event at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, Safechuck added.
