Evacuations were ordered Saturday afternoon after a vegetation fire broke out in the Santa Ynez Valley.
The blaze on View Drive northeast of Santa Ynez was reported at about 3:20 p.m.
Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the scene on the 1800 block of View Drive, along with crews from Los Padres National Forest.
The first units to arrive reported 20 acres charred, with flames spreading rapidly through the grass.
There were structures and animals threatened in the area, and county officials sent out an alert for the area of View Drive and Baseline Avenue to “evacuate immediately.”
There are numerous horse properties in the area, and large-animal evacuations were underway.

At 4:30 p.m., fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli reported that the blaze had been knocked down and the threat to structures had been eliminated.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the evacuation order was lifted.
A full vegetation fire reponse was ordered, including aircraft, hand crews, bulldozers and water tenders.
There were reports of power lines down in the area, according to emergency radio traffic.
