Evelina Erickson shot a personal-best 43 to earn medalist honors and lead the San Marcos girls golf team to a 236-275 Channel League win over rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.
Fia Torrey shot a 47 and Campbell Thayer and Riley O’Brien finished one shot behind her.
Ella Arce was the lower scorer for Santa Barbara with a 52.
“Evelina played in a very steady, calm manner and recovered well when she got in trouble,” said coach Sarah Ashton.
Erickson made four pars in her 9-hole round.
“Sophomore Campbell Thayer had a fantastic chip in hole 8 for par and junior Riley O’Brien carded a birdie and a par. We rely on her consistency each round,” said Ashton.
Torrey drove the green on hole No. 5 and two putted for a birdie.
San Marcos improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league.
“We were outscored by SM today but will get back out there tomorrow at the practice facility to focus on our short game and putting,” said Santa Barbara coach Ryan Throop. “This golf game is very humbling, and today we saw that, but we will continue to strive to get better each day.”
Santa Barbara is 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Channel League.
