Evodio ‘Goyo’ Santamaria

Evodio “Goyo” Santamaria, 86, of Goleta passed away on Aug. 15, 2025, after a seven-month battle with plasmablastic lymphoma. Evodio was born on May 6, 1939, in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. In his late teens he moved to Santa Barbara.

Evodio worked at the Goleta lemon packing house in his early 20s, where he met his late wife Francis. The two later married and created a beautiful life together. They had three children Lorena, Greg (Irma Santamaria), and Margaret.

Evodio was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. Greg and his wife Irma gave Evodio two grandchildren Dahlia and Joaquín, whom he truly adored.

Evodio will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and dedication, which was apparent through his devotion to his career at Sandpiper Golf Course, where he worked for 46 years until he retired in 2014.

After retirement you could find Evodio tending to his garden and avocado trees, listening to music, going for drives around town, or watching the Dodgers play.

His humor, kind heart, and strength will be greatly missed by his children, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and all those who crossed his path.

The rosary will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25 at St. Raphael’s Church. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Aug. 25, also at St. Raphael’s Church with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
