The San Marcos boys volleyball team opened its season with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-8 sweep at Valencia on Wednesday night.

Coach Roger Kuntz has an experience club, with four returning starters from a CIF-SS semifinalist, including All-CIF setter Hansen Streeter.

“Twelve of our 13 varsity players were active in club volleyball and you can tell that they have worked hard in our offseason to improve their skill development,” said Kuntz after Wednesday’s match.

The team was a little too amped at the service line in the opener.

“We missed too many serves in sets one and two and we need to be more efficient from the serving line,” said Kuntz. “Our passing was good and our defense is much improved. We have a lot of experience in our offense and it is fun to watch.”

The Royals travel to the Redondo Union Tournament on Friday.
