A large branch of a ficus tree fell into Milpas Street Wednesday afternoon, blocking several lanes of traffic.
The tree fell on the 200 block of Milpas street between Montecito and Yanonali streets, according to witnesses and city responders.
The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m. on the busy corridor and Santa Barbara city crews responded quickly to help clear the tree.
Several large ficus trees line Milpas Street in the city’s Eastside neighborhood. Earlier this year the city removed eight of the trees as part of the Crosswalk Safety and Sidewalk Widening Project to make the area safer for drivers and pedestrians.
