Central Coast families are invited to a free Family Kite Festival, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 12 at Rotary Centennial Park, 2625 S. College Drive, Santa Maria.

The event is hosted by the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum, in partnership with the Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department.

Attendees can enjoy an afternoon filled with colorful kites soaring overhead, live music, food vendors, and interactive experiences for families.

“This event represents more than a day at the park. It is a strategic investment in connection, belonging, and the kind of childhood moments that shape strong communities,” said leadership from the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum.

“When families gather in spaces like this, something powerful happens. Barriers lower, laughter rises, and community strengthens,” they said.

“The free Family Kite Festival reflects a broader vision to create accessible, meaningful experiences that support families and elevate the importance of play as a critical component of healthy development,” organizers said. “It is both a celebration and a signal. Community matters. Families matter. And moments like these are worth building.”
