A farmworker was fatally injured Thursday afternoon when he was run over by a tractor in a field near Guadalupe, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 1:30 p.m. to the incident on the 2800 block of West Main Street/Highway 166, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck told Noozhawk.
The man, who was operating the tractor, suffered major injuries, and was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, where he was pronounced deceased, Safechuck said.
His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
A Calstar medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but later was canceled.
The death remained under investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau and Cal-OSHA.
Assisting on the incident were personnel from the Guadalupe Fire Department and American Medical Response.
