Cate boys water polo dominated the opening half and never looked back en route to an 18-9 rivalry victory over Carpinteria High on Wednesday in Carpinteria.
After the Rams opened with two goals in the first two minutes, the Warriors answered back with back-to-back goals from Chris Reed.
However, Cate continued to build its lead throughout the first half en route to a 10-3 halftime advantage.
While the Carpinteria High offense found more success in the second half, the Rams maintained a comfortable lead and pulled away for the nine-goal win.
Cate’s Monte Prince led the way with four goals, Liam Moes and Tenny Brine each tallied hat tricks, and Sam Kellogg and August Shapiro scored one goal apiece.
“Carp played hard for four quarters and presented us with some real challenges. However, coming off a four-game tournament, our group looked organized, sharp, and level-headed from start to finish,” Cate head coach Jesse Morrison said.
“This was a complete team win and a great sign of where we are headed as we begin to close out our league schedule and approach the playoffs.”
Stefano Picoletti led the Warrior defense with nine blocks and two steals, while Luke Donahue tallied three goals and two steals in the loss. As a team, Carpinteria High ended with 10 total steals.
The Warriors will be on the road against Villanova Prep on Friday, while Cate will host Hueneme on Friday.
