San Marcos got off to a fast start with a 25-7 first-quarter lead on Friday and went on to beat Nordhoff 58-22 in the Nordhoff Tournament.
Kiani Rojas and Ava Cannizzaro paced the Royals with 13 points each. Fran Pereira and Michelle Arellanes added eight apiece.
The Royals will play Moorpark for third place on Saturday at 4 p.m.
“I’m happy with the win, but more happy with our positive attitude, spirit, and being ready to play the game from the tip-off,” said San Marcos coach Aaron Solis. “We know we have a very tough matchup against a team that is much much bigger than us, probably the biggest team we’ll face this season. We are going to have our work cut out for us. But if we come with the same attitude tomorrow as we did today, we will be right there and in a good position.”
