A woman pedestrian was fatally injured Tuesday night when she was struck by a vehicle on Hollister Avenue in Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. to the 7300 block of Hollister, west of Storke Road near Lowell Way, on a report of a person down in the roadway median, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.

“When first responders arrived, they found an adult female pedestrian in the median who was deceased as the result of a traffic collision,” Zick said.

The victim was identified as Marjorie Vasquez, 86, of Goleta.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Vasquez was Julie Chang of Santa Barbara, Zick said, adding that investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The collision was under investigation by the sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team.
